I would like to thank, Donna from A Perfect Gray, for sending readers my way.
I thought I would tell you a little more about my living room makeover and give some insight into what has inspired me and some of the decisions that I am still struggling with.
The above living room from Gerrie Bremermann is one of my favorites and is at the top of my list of inspirational images for my new living room. Although I have picked the wall color, I am still tossing around the trim and ceiling colors. I really like the trim color painted the same color as the walls just in a semi-gloss. I have a 1950's cottage with 8'2" ceiling height not quite as impressive as this New Orleans living room. When we redesigned our home in 1999, we completely opened up the interior and removed some 20 doors. I love the openness of our home but it makes decorating a challenge sometimes as all the rooms are open to each other and the color palette must be complimentary.
The color palette above from the New York showhouse decorated by Susan Ferrier is what I am considering: a subtle gray backdrop of Hardwick White, a rich mushroom brown velvet, a textural oatmeal Belgian linen, a pop of turquoise silk and one of my favorite hand blocked prints from Galbraith and Paul.
These next two photographs are the look I am going for. A light yet sophisticated atmosphere. Notice the walls, molding and trim are are similar in hue and color. I am still not sure this will work in my home.
Here is my current sofa with a linen slipcover. I am very excited to know that Lee Industries still carries the sofa I purchased from them almost twenty years ago and now offer a custom made slipcover. They have a beautiful Belgian linen that I adore. I am a little apprehensive about ordering it wondering if the dimensions have changed slightly over the years. I have measured my sofa and checked the measurements with the website but am still a little nervous.
Here is another image of a sofa like mine with a linen slipcover.
I really, really like that pop of turquoise with the brown!
Here are some before pictures of my living room:
Here is a small swatch of the fabric I am considering:
