A Birthday Gift that Lasts all Year

I just received my first issue of "flower" in the mail, a birthday gift from one of my dearest friends! She knows me so well and knew I would just love my new subscription! The magazine's tag line ~ "enriching life through flowers" is certainly enticing but the magazine actually speaks its philosophy through real life people that incorporate flowers into their everyday lives. The monthly issue features an impowering article entitled "flower school" as well as interviews with interior designers known for their love of flowers. This month's issue highlights the work of Barry Dixon and Lilly Pulitzer.

Here is just a peek of some of the interesting florals in this issue. I am in love with the second arrangment and would love to try to create the little 'sweater' vase at home.

A special {thank you} to my friend Susan for such a thoughtful gift that will last all year!

One of the non-profits that I am involved in locally, Gifts From Gran's Garden, brings together individuals with a love of flowers to make floral arrangements for seniors. Twice a month we venture out in the garden in search of greenery, berries and blooms and descend on Senior Services with a mission to create small nosegays for the seniors receiving Meals-on-Wheels and small 'mason' jar arrangements for those that receive in home care. You can not imagine the joy these small gifts from nature bring to these seniors! What's amazing is the flower arranging sessions are therapeutic to all of us as well. We often receive flowers from weddings or other formal events and can repurpose these flowers for our arrangements.  My friend Lila, the creator of Gifts From Gran's Garden, was inspired by her mother's love of flowers and caring spirit.
